Dyck Decorators—one of the leading painting contractors in New Zealand—was established from the vision of its founder Dieter Dyck in 1966. It became a household name during the building heydays of the 70s and early 80s for their quality painting works and team of professional painters.
Dieter Dyck is no stranger to chaos and rebuilding, having come from war-torn Germany. In 1984 during the recession, he made a detour from painting and decorating to running his own South Seas island beach resort on the Vava’u islands in Tonga. When he sold this successful business, he settled in Christchurch with his son Dietmar and his family. He was looking forward to a nice, quiet retirement. But the 7.1 magnitude earthquake of September 4, 2010 happened, followed by February 22’s 6.3 magnitude earthquake, and Dieter’s retirement was placed on hold. Dedicated Christchurch community members, father Dieter and son Dietmar—both highly skilled painters and decorators—knew that their skills in painting and decorating were badly needed in the Christchurch rebuilding efforts.
That is why today, Dyck Decorators is heavily involved in working with Christchurch earthquake rebuilding activities. They contract to builders who carry out the Fletcher’s EQR work, supplying all painting services including house repaint, interior painting, exterior painting, plastering, gib stopping and wallpapering works.

I first engaged Dyck Decorators on my residential home in the summer of 1996 and then again most recently for two projects on my commercial premises.
I’ve enjoyed their professionalism and attention to detail, with every project the company is a pleasure to deal with.
As a repeat client I can say that the level of experience and efficiency has me returning time and again for all my painting and decorating needs.
